The mosque behind the harbour was built by a Turkish landowner soon after 1580 and bears his name, A?a Cafér Pa?a Mosque. The mosque is well-sited; it not only overlooks the harbour, but is also close to an ancient spring, which was used for the ritual ablutions. The spring, with a stone fountain, is still in use today. The minaret is built of local stone and the Muezzin calls out the prayer or “Ezan” five times a day. It is sung in Arabic.
